RAMOS DELGADO, David    ALDANA BAUTISTA, Alexánder. What Is Educational in Artworks that Address the Issue of Memories in Colombia? Reflections for the Debate Around the Relationship Between Art and Memory. []. , 17, pp.40-53. ISSN 2011-804X.

The question of the relationship between art and memory is a current issue in the Latin American context, especially in the countries of the Southern Cone that returned to democracy. Associated with political violence and post-conflict situation in Colombia, the issue has flourished since the 1980s and 1990s, gaining important space for debate and reflection during the past two decades, in the field of the creation and theorization of art, as well as in social sciences -especially in studies on memory- and in the field of education. This article aims to contribute to this discussion, examining the links between memory, art, and education. In this way, the first section provides an analysis of the concept of memory, emphasizing policies for the transmission of the past in contexts of political violence. Next, it gives a conceptual overview on the connection between contemporary art and memory at the global, Latin American, and Colombian levels. Finally, the article proposes a convergence between art-memory and education, based on the conception of artwork as an educational event, in relation to the different degrees of spectator participation in the creation and circulation of artistic practices and productions.
