VALENCIA, Victoriano. Band Music in Colombia. Territories, Creation Senses and Features of the Arranger-Songwriter. []. , 18, pp.101-111. ISSN 2011-804X.

Nowadays, the evidences that mark the path and potential of the music band as a territory of aesthetic expression, educational action, regional manifestation and cultural agency in our country are very well-known. Multiple institutional, economic, political and human mediations throughout the country's history, including relations with the international scene, have shaped, streamlined, transformed and, above all, made possible its establishment and validity for more than 200 years as a sound and cultural practice. Nevertheless, and although it is recognized that behind every idea outlined here, a whole network of mediations is simultaneously mobilized, the three sections of this document focus on the features and senses of the creative activity of composers and arrangers who produce band music.

The first section makes a quick tour of the relationship between repertoires and the transformations of the service role of the band in Colombia during the 19th century, to the incorporation of regional musical forms, which constitutes a first corpus of band music in Colombia. The second section addresses the new elements and creative references given in the transformation of the national band practice before the emergence and development of the children-youth model in the 1970s. Finally, the third section focuses on the types and lines of current production, drawing intersections between the different senses and features of the creative subject from a perspective of multiple identities and the promotion of other-own-new aesthetics.
