VALENCIA HERNANDEZ, Esneider; LOPEZ-GIL, Gustavo Adolfo  e  RIOS-GOMEZ, Lorena. Confluences of Popular and Traditional Music in the Chamber Work of Aldemaro Romero Zerpa. Pensam. palabra obra [online]. 2018, n.19, pp.8-25. ISSN 2011-804X.

This paper explores the confluence of popular and traditional Latin American music in the chamber orchestra and soloist (saxophone) works of Venezuelan composer Aldemaro Romero (1928-2007). It accounts for the dynamics of cultural change and its affirmation in music, revealing an issue regarding cultural identity in the work of Latin American composers since the second half of the 20th century. The music Romero wrote during the last ten years of his life may well condense the influences and experiences of this important musician throughout his career. During this time, his musical production reached its peak, with 83 works involving a wide variety of formats, including concerts for all symphonic instruments -and for other, not so conventional ones-, cantatas, oratorios, chamber music, and symphonic pieces. His work is a cultural patrimony of Latin America that takes greater force in its last composition period, which is still little known.

Palavras-chave : Aldemaro Romero; popular and traditional Latin American music; Latin American chamber music; Latin American saxophone.
