Abstract

RIVERA-PLATA, Alejandro. Design, Identity, and Ideology: Design as Discourse. Pensam. palabra obra [online]. 2018, n.20, pp.94-103. ISSN 2011-804X.

This analysis or reflection seeks to present the existing relationships between identity, ideology and design products, establishing that there are underlying traits in them that reveal ideological and identity structures. First, we define the dynamics of the construction of individual identity. Then, we explain how these identities participate in the definition of ideological structures and establish the ways in which these structures, which have a social meaning, resort to discourse as a means of representation and negotiation. Finally, we reveal how design products possess characteristics that define them as discourse and, therefore, they possess properties and structures similar to those of linguistic discourses.

Keywords : design; identity; ideology; discourse; design acts.
