Abstract
DELGADO-DEL AGUILA, Jesús Miguel. Critical Studies of News of a Kidnapping (1996): Foundations about the Novel as Allegory, Gender, and Literary Interpretation. Pensam. palabra obra [online]. 2019, n.21, pp.26-41. Epub Mar 24, 2020. ISSN 2011-804X.
News of a Kidnapping (1996) develops a different topic from the general literary work of Gabriel García Márquez (who actually published it when he was alive), as it represents a typical context of Cultural Studies. For this proposal, we will use Gadamer's hermeneutical method, which is based on literary criticism's mention of the research works made so far, as well as their systematization. In this paper, we will present three approaches that literary criticism (understood as the concept of hermeneutics) has developed about the aforementioned text. The first one is based on the assumption that the novel is an allegory of Colombia; the second one questions it in terms of literary genre, as it could be a "journalistic novel," "historical novel," "documentary novel," etc. Finally, the theoretical notions and interpretative methods that critics have used to address it are presented. The purpose of this paper is to confront and to promote the intertextual dialogue with the contributions made so that a hermeneutical panorama is established on the foundation of the novel.
Keywords : literary criticism; novel; report; literary form and genre; allegory.
