This article is the result of action-research project "Literature as a symbolic universe of memory in school" carried out by the National Pedagogical Institute, whose main purpose was to do an approach to the collective construction of historical memory in the school environment. In this regard, the article describes three moments that hint at a path in the education of teachers and students to remember the past from the present: first, the construction of memory from literary reading; second, the promotion of students' expression in the face of conflict from their own aesthetic concepts and the production of artistic pieces; and third, the possibility of a public action such as the commemoration framed in an Artistic Festival of Memory.
