Abstract

HUERTA, Ricard. The Silent Voice of Women Teachers in Latin America. Educating from Invisibility. Pensam. palabra obra [online]. 2020, n.24, pp.100-115.  Epub May 16, 2021. ISSN 2011-804X.  https://doi.org/10.17227/ppo.num24-11412.

This research is an exercise that is born from the professional but it is certainly linked to personal issues. As a university teacher of Art Education for three decades, I have seen that the majority of my students are women. In 2005, I started the project Women Teachers, and it continues as work in progress, as artistic action. Women Teachers is a tribute to the educators. I have visited several countries and interviewed hundreds of teachers. I approach their particular world from a sensitive and attentive to identity perspective. By knowing their realities, the stories and experiences of these women who exercise their profession from the conviction and commitment are intertwined . We can detect the knowledge, experience, respect, patience, motivation, perseverance, and personal involvement. We develop a critical look around visibility (and invisibility) of the teaching staff. The interpretation of these experiences is translated into works of art that affect each of these teachers who work in countries like Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Cuba and Uruguay. Teachers recognize the need to integrate the arts in school as a powerful tool for training students, for developing a critical spirit, and for the promotion of creativity.

Keywords : education; art; art education; identity; women; teacher.
