This article presents the research results whose objective is to recognize how the performing arts careers of Chilean universities dialogue with the discourses of institutional self-assessment and the accreditation processes. For this purpose, a qualitative study of discourse analysis was carried out in which 22 people participated in interviews and group discussions, including directors, teachers, and students of performing arts careers. Based on the foregoing, three tensions were identified in the discourse of the university communities: university teaching of the arts versus traditions of a conservatory or apprenticeship, teacher training, and student experience, and the need for standardization versus the variability of methodologies in performing Arts. It concludes with the urgency of generating specific actions so that the processes of institutional self-assessment and accreditations can promote training projects in the performing arts in its different dimensions, academic career, research, and professional progression.
