This essay analyzes three forms of political publicity during the restoration of absolutist rule in the New Kingdom of Granada (1816-1819): printed papers, royal celebrations and catholic liturgy. It focusses on the premises and consequences of the royalist appeal to the public opinion as source of legitimacy. A fundamental purpose of this article is to account for the intricate relationship between royalist speeches, the rebuilding of political community and the forms of official publicity during this period.
