Abstract

ROBLEDO PAEZ, SANTIAGO. Lettered Ecclesiastical: Preliminary Study of the Text Producers in New Granada (1650-1750). Front. hist. [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.2, pp.64-90. ISSN 2027-4688.

The aim of this paper is examine the particular activities that characterized the principal group of the New Kingdom of Granada's inhabitants dedicated to the production of texts: the lettré ecclesiastics. We center our regard especially in those who i nhabited Santafe a nd i ts environments. Examples of the circulation of their textual production, in both print and manuscript, are analyzed; the importance of the universities in this community's constitution as a corps is signaled, and some conditions of its "labor market" are reviewed. Also, we try to characterize this community as formed by lettrés and not writers.
