Abstract

GARCIA CORZO, REBECA VANESA. Attempts of Silk Industry Implementation in the New Spain of the 18th Century. Front. hist. [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.1, pp.118-144. ISSN 2027-4688.

This study is centered in some attempts aimed at the successful implementation of the silk industry in late eighteenth-century New Spain. This situation led to the establishment of relations between elements of science, technology and society. An interesting feature of them all is that they can be read as a series of small household rebellions in which the desire for equal rights and conditions of the viceroyalty against the metropolis manifested itself in line with the distinctive Creole patriotism prior to the process of New Spain's independence.

Keywords : Disagreements; Enlightenment; New Spain; silk industry; society.
