Abstract

During the Audience of Quito in the XVIII century, the power of the chief was weaken, this generated a restructuring of the chiefdoms and in this process the cacicas were decisive. The documentation shows them disputing and winning in the courts their right to govern. Meaning, they took the government of their partiality and performed the functions of a traditional male chief. This article shows the strategies that were used in front of the courts of justice to conquer the government of their peoples.
