In 1703 the capuchin Isidoro of Seville announced the advocation of the Divina Pastora in the public rosary of a Sevillian procession. Quickly the town adopted the devotion to the image painted by Alfonso Miguel de Tovar, at the expense of the occurrence that the capuchin had. Despite the good reception of the image, the Capuchin preacher had many problems, even within his religious order, due to the theological error of calling the Virgin Mary “divine”. The purpose of the article is to analyze the biographical profile of Isidoro de Sevilla and the influences he could receive from Miguel Mañara, the ascetic of death, to publicize the advocation of the Divina Pastora as a discursive and predicable idea.
