The border areas are a privileged place for socio-historical and anthropological analysis, since they allow access to the multiplicity of links, tensions and conflicts characteristic of those societies that inhabit them. An example of this is seen in Hispanic America at the border with the indigenous societies that had resisted the Spanish advances. Regarding military development, its origins are linked to the reforms undertaken by the Bourbons throughout the eighteenth century to consolidate the territorial domain of its vast empire. This paper deals with the territorial political ordering that these implemented in the south of Córdoba in the years prior to the independence process. Its purpose is to examine the articulation of two variables of analysis: war and geographical knowledge, taking into account two aspects manifested in documents consulted, namely the installation of a line of forts and the recognition of roads and places from trips, explorations and / or campaigns. It is argued that military policy established by the Bourbons in the southern region of Córdoba left a political and social mark that gave uniqueness to this space.
