Abstract

LETELIER COSMELLI, JAVIERA  and  GOLDSCHMIDT LEVINSKY, DAFNA. Crossing Borders. The Isabelas of Osorno and the Kidnapping of Sister Francisca in the Late Sixteenth Century. Front. hist. [online]. 2019, vol.24, n.2, pp.136-160. ISSN 2027-4688.  https://doi.org/10.22380/20274688.611.

With the Spanish conquest social norms were restructured. This implied negotiation in power and strategies of resistance in which different social agents took part, articulated in a border context at the beginning of the Colonial Period. This paper addresses, from the history of the abduction of Sister Francisca in the ancient city of Osorno, forms of social resistance that arise from this historical event, related to the role of women during the colonial period and the relationship with the indigenous world, based on the categories of castes and gender, and the alliance of both, in a context of subaltern social agents.

Keywords : colonial period; religious women; resistance; Osorno; castes; gender.
