Abstract

QUINTERO ORDONEZ, DAVID. Conflicts in the Borders of the Real Audiencia. Actions of Quito and Santafé in the Lawsuit for the Meat Supply of Guadalajara de Buga, 1768-1791. Front. hist. [online]. 2020, vol.25, n.2, pp.158-178. ISSN 2027-4688.  https://doi.org/10.22380/20274688.1122.

For almost two centuries, the Buga and Cartago councils maintained a complex jurisdictional dispute. The peculiarity of this case is that although both cities were subject to the government of Popayán, their limits marked the confines of the Royal Audiences of Quito and Santafé, complicating any resolution. From different arguments, among which were the process of conquest, the uses of the land, the neighborhood of the inhabitants, it was sought to dispute eight leagues between the streams of El Naranjo and La Honda, a key livestock production area to guarantee the meat supply from both populations.
