Abstract

PASCACIO GUILLEN, BERTHA. "The Altarpieces Are Extremely Shape": The Collaterals of Anthropomorphic Columns in the Colonial Yucatan. Front. hist. [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.1, pp.170-198.  Epub Jan 01, 2021. ISSN 2027-4688.  https://doi.org/10.22380/20274688.1398.

In Yucatan there are three collateral altarpieces that show a peculiar model characterized by the use of anthropomorphic caryatid-shaped columns. These breaks with the classic canons used by Vitrubio's work in Europe and New Spain. At the present these pieces can be found in Yucatan's territory and could be considered as a sample of regional art; their analysis reveals a design that exhibits a local solution in the manufacture, as well as the planning of discourse and the exhibition of unique skills by their creators, those elements allow us to assert that is a Yucatec contribution to New Spain Colonial art and his visual culture.

Keywords : art; regional; caryatids; model; baroque lexicon.
