Abstract

The objective of this article is to characterize the perception of young people from the municipality of Zumpahuacán, State of Mexico, about their family and work future. The foregoing is contrasted with the possibilities that the social, cultural and environmental context offers to the inhabitants of this municipality. In addition, a group of adults who chose migration as a livelihood strategy is characterized. To reach the goal, a questionnaire was applied to 95 young people and 28 semi-structured interviews were conducted with men and women who emigrated to the United States and who were in Zumpahuacán in 2017. Based on the results, it is concluded that migration is a livelihood strategy that permeates the future and aspirations of young people, des pite their desire to continue studying and achieve a profession.
