The objective of this research was to inquire about family practices and speeches which young people perceive as contributions to their development as citizens, to reflect about family on the daily life of this population group. This descriptive, quantitative and cross-sectional study was undertaken through a questionnaire to 2 535 men and women between 12 and 18 years, who were enrolled in Bogotá public schools. The results show that 66.8 % of family is represented as a unit of love, in contrast to 1.7% which it is just a resource for supplies. About values, the most practiced one is respect, since it has the highest percentage and the lowest one is acceptance from others and to make things right. One of the most negative practices reported by men was "white lies" and by women was to scream in order to offend people.
