Abstract

The article analyzes the participation of Barranquilla's women in social and economic context of local society, during the course of the second half of the nineteenth century. In addition, describes how a group of women despite the civil and moral constraints of the time contributed to the livelihood of their families. For this, a statistical series was made with notarial sources for show that women participated in the credit market as lenders and borrowers. Finally, it concludes that women received smaller and expensive loans than men by be perceived as a financial risk because their earnings generally came from domestic work.
