MORA CAICEDO, Ángela Rocío. Neighbors, Vassals, and Defenders of the King, the Necessary Conditions for the Citizen in the Province of Pasto, 1809-1823. Historelo.rev.hist.reg.local [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.18, pp.83-120. ISSN 2145-132X. https://doi.org/10.15446/historelo.v9n18.59104.
In a scenario of social change as it was the transition between a traditional order in the Province of Pasto and the advent of the Republic (1809-1823), it appeals to the political language as a methodological tool, to study the status assigned to subjects in the Old Regime, mainly the neighbors and the vassals faithful to King Fernando VII. The perspective of the conceptual history and the political language made it possible to carry out an approximation to the presence rooted concepts that generated in society status and actions product of the will of the social actors, evidenced primarily in the records of the Cabildo of Pasto and communications between the representatives of the realistic and republican armies. Under this assumption, it was found that the political and social circumstances of the independence process produced significant burdens on these concepts articulated in the speech realistic. For example, the vassalage was the connotation that unify all the defenders of the King and the neighbor was a recognition that is assigned to a position of privilege for the elites, therefore, before the implementation of a modern concept and liberal as it is the citizen, did not change the social order already given.
