Abstract

NICOLA-DAPELO, Luciano. The General in His Network, Julio Argentino Roca: Consolidation and Political Projection from the South of Córdoba (1870-1890). Historelo.rev.hist.reg.local [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.23, pp.224-255.  Epub Dec 03, 2019. ISSN 2145-132X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/historelo.v12n23.76642.

Julio Argentino Roca is a central character to understand the political history of Argentina in the last quarter of the 19th century. Historians give priority to the analysis of him as a vector and his power since his presidency between 1880 and 1886. Thus, in this article it is proposed, from relational analysis, to approach the creation of a power network in and from the south of Córdoba, where, in his capacity as Boarder General Commander, he lived six years (1872-1878), prior to his performance at the Ministry of War and Marine, and his First Mandate. We will therefore observe the network historicity in the south of Cordoba and Roca's strategies to capture it, enlarge it and consolidate it for his own political interests; in his struggle for the dominance of the province, which allowed him to dispute, in a political way, that area with his party rivals in the 1880s.
