Resumen
BOLANOS-FLORIDO, Leidy. The Cultural and the Popular on Colombian National Radio, 1940-1985. Historelo.rev.hist.reg.local [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.27, pp.146-181. Epub 20-Mar-2021. ISSN 2145-132X. https://doi.org/10.15446/historelo.v13n27.89101.
For several decades Colombia's National Radio maintained the teaching and cultural function, commissioned by the liberal party leaders who founded it in 1940. The advocacy of the dissemination of enlightening cultural expressions and their aspiration to free themselves from the pressures of audiences aroused criticism from some listeners, who pointed out that public radio appeared to be at the service of an enlightened minority and not within reach of a wider audience. Thus, this article proposes addressing disputes surrounding the conceptions of the cultural and the popular on state-owned radio using press archives. Specifically, the article traces the golden years of its radio theater until the 1980s, when most senior employees retire. Its programming content is changed, and the audience decays from that of the radio competition and the increasing importance that the Colombian government gave to television.
