TORRES-FRANCO, Paulina. The Spread of Cholera Morbus of 1833 from Tampico to Aguascalientes and Los Altos de Jalisco. Historelo.rev.hist.reg.local [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.34, pp.90-127.  Epub 14-Mar-2024. ISSN 2145-132X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/historelo.v15n34.102659.

The cholera epidemic of 1833 was one of the most lethal of the 19th century. It was an unknown disease in America, and despite being one of the most studied epidemics in Mexico, its analysis requires leaving the cities and focusing on rural areas. This article has two objectives: to investigate the route by which the epidemic reached Aguascalientes and Los Altos de Jalisco, based on the data provided by parish burial records; and to make a demographic analysis of the impact of cholera in five parishes in the state of Aguascalientes and fifteen parishes in the región of Los Altos de Jalisco. Information was obtained from the burial books and analyzed base on the aggregate method. The results show that the cholera epidemic arrived in the región analyzed from San Luis Potosí, lasted between two and seven months, attacked men and women equally, and caused a higher mortality in adults.
