Abstract

HERNANDEZ RIOS, Mónica Isabel. The concept of disability: From a disease to a rights approach. rev.ces derecho [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.2, pp.46-59. ISSN 2145-7719.

Throughout history people with disabilities and the organizations that represent them have fought for the recognition of their rights as human beings. However the evolution of the legal- theoretical concept of disability has provoked a global change that recognized a person with a disability as a human being, who has rights and is entitled to equal opportunities just as every other person, in every aspect of social life. This writing makes an analysis of the theoretical and normative changes the disability concept entails and its transformation into a conception focused on their rights.

Keywords : Disability; deficiency; right approach; social inclusion; reasonable; accommodation.
