Abstract

ARIZA, Julio. THE POLITICS OF DE-SPECIFICATION AND THE “ARGENTINE CONNECTION” IN JOSÉ MANUEL PRIETO’S REX. perifrasis. rev.lit.teor.crit. [online]. 2018, vol.9, n.17, pp.95-112. ISSN 2145-8987.  https://doi.org/10.25025/perifrasis20189.17.06.

This article focuses on the literary production of Cuban writer José Manuel Prieto (1962), with a particular emphasis on Rex (2007), the third novel of his "Russian trilogy”. In Rex, Prieto develops a narrative that problematizes the notion of identity, both in its thematic content and in Prieto’s unique writing style. Finally, I emphasize that Prieto, in the construction of his complex machinery of literary and vital de-specification, establishes a connection with certain areas of the Argentine narrative.

Keywords : José Manuel Prieto; de-specification; post-Soviet Cuban diaspora; Alan Pauls; Jorge Luis Borges.
