Written over two decades, the works that made up the book Seis ensayos en busca de nuestra expresión (published in Buenos Aires in 1928) deployed critical strategies to appropriate and resignify different metropolitan theoretical approaches (philological, historiographical and linguistic) for their application. to Latin American literature. Since the publication of Ensayos críticos, in 1905, Pedro Henríquez Ureña studied the formation and development of Latin American literature, both during his stay in Mexico as in Argentina. Henríquez Ureña thus became one of the first critics to propose a theoretical instrumental adapted to the particularities of the literary fields in Latin America. In this essay I propose to describe these strategies (including them in the concept of critical transculture) in Seis ensayos en busca de nuestra expresión and its importance in the configuration of Latin American critical theory.
