Abstract

DIAZ, MAIRYN ARTEAGA. Literary Journalism from the Prism of Crime Novels: An Analysis of two Texts by Leila Guerriero. perifrasis. rev.lit.teor.crit. [online]. 2025, vol.16, n.36, pp.100-116.  Epub Sep 04, 2025. ISSN 2145-8987.  https://doi.org/10.25025/perifrasis202516.36.06.

The article proposes a reading of Leila Guerriero's texts Los suicidas del fin del mundo and La otra guerra, in the key of the modern detective novel, to demonstrate, through a comparison, that the narrative voices of literary journalism and crime novels share some similarities. To this end, the theoretical postulates of Mempo Giardinelli, Ricardo Piglia and Laura Freixas are used. It is concluded that the narrators in Guerriero's texts can be equated to the narrative voices of the modern detective novel, as they present continuities in terms of the structure of the story, the way of organizing the information, the work with language, the presence of mechanisms of intrigue and suspense and the fact that both deal with those issues of society that remain hidden.

Keywords : literary journalism; noir novel; Leila Guerriero; contemporary chronicle; enigma; Latin America; 21st century; investigation.
