FANDINO, LAURA. Necrofictional Figurations of the Northern Border in the 21 st Century. About Tijuana and the Waiting Camps. perifrasis. rev.lit.teor.crit. [online]. 2025, vol.16, n.36, pp.136-153. Epub 04-Sep-2025. ISSN 2145-8987. https://doi.org/10.25025/perifrasis202516.36.08.
In this paper I analyze different figurations of the border between Latin America and the United States in the 21st century based on "The Beginning," a poetic text that is part of Capitalismo gore (2010) by Sayak Valencia, and the story "Una música futuro" (2023) by María José Navia. The productions of Valencia and Navia, as necrofictions, configure the border in terms of a dystopian affective chronotopy linked to the structural violence of the current stage of capitalism. I investigate some of the procedures used in these texts to interpret and question the border space centered on the city of Tijuana -this side- in Valencia's poem and on the waiting camps for migrant children crossing into the United States -the other side- in Navia's story.
