Abstract
RUIZ CABEZAS, MERI ROCÍO and PEREZ BARRIOS, ELIANA SOFÍA. Environmental education of children from official educational institutions of Santa Marta. Zona prox. [online]. 2014, n.21, pp.52-64. ISSN 2145-9444.
This research paper aims at identifying the level of knowledge in environmental education in students of primary school. Environmental education is understood as a process which allows understanding relationships with the environment, through a critical reflection about the biophysical, social, political, economical and cultural reality, in order to generate attitudes of valuation and respect for the environment. The research had a qualitative-quantitative approach with a descriptive and transversal design. The non probabilistic sample consists of 229 students of 5th degree. Data were collected through a questionnaires and qualitative observations. Results showed that 77% of children said that they classified garbage, but observations showed that this is not put into practice in the school environment. It may be concluded that there is little participation of children in ecological actions which enable them to build intentional behaviors of environmental protection.
