GONZALEZ DI PIERRO, Carlos; FLORES FAHARA, Manuel y FOCSAN, Raluca. The development of the intercultural competence, through the perspective of the meaningful learning in foreign language teachers. Zona prox. [online]. 2016, n.25, pp.70-86. ISSN 2145-9444. https://doi.org/10.14482/zp.22.5832.
Abstract This study explores the way in which meaningful learning influences the development of the intercultural competence and bridges the gap between theory and practice in a group of Mexican foreign language college and university teachers. Based on the theories of Aguado (2003), Byram (1993b), Gómez-Zermeño (2010), Jäger (2014) and Vilà (2002), we report on a descriptive action research based on a six-week training course designed for nine such foreign language teachers, using the observations and the analysis of the resulting documents. As main result, we conclude that due to meaningful learning, the teachers developed the concept of culture from an intercultural point of view becoming more critical and increasing the communication and the intercultural knowledge inside the participative group.
