Abstract

HIRSCH, Julia; ALMARAZ RODRIGUEZ, Ignacio  and  RIOS MANRIQUEZ, Martha. The preparation of the industrial firms in the State of Querétaro, Mexico, in the area of information and communication technologies. suma neg. [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.14, pp.166-177. ISSN 2215-910X.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.sumneg.2015.08.012.

The present article analyzes the usage of information and communication technologies (ICT) in Mexico and especially in the State of Queretaro, a state with a high potential of development due to its strategic position as well as the available infrastructure. In particular, the paper analyzes whether there exist differences in the usage of ICT between different types of firms in order to be able to identify possible problems and barriers with which specific firms are confronted as well as underline possible areas of political intervention in order to support the regional development. Therefore, we use a handcollected data set based on surveys with managers of industrial firms in the State of Queretaro, Mexico, about the implementation of ITC in the different areas. The areas included both the equipment (such as computers) and the area of human resources as well as the definition of strategies and the integration of ITC in the organizational structure. The most important result is the following: the smaller the companies and the less developed their organizational structure, the more difficult it is for them to implement ITC. This result is not mainly due to the lack of consciousness of the firms but more to the lack of technological resources.
