SOLBES, Jordi. Building Science Didactics: Toward Evidence-Based Scientific Education. Prax. Saber [online]. 2024, vol.15, n.40, pp.170-186. Epub 03-Mar-2025. ISSN 2216-0159. https://doi.org/10.19053/uptc.22160159.v15.n40.2024.17445.
In this work, we first demonstrate that transmissive or traditional teaching prevails in educational systems and is often perceived as natural by educators. Next, we present three models of science teacher training and explore the role of science didactics within these models. We trace the process that led to the consolidation of science didactics as an emerging discipline, meeting Toulmins criteria: a set of specific problems, the existence of a critical community, shared goals and ideals, accepted methodologies, evolving conceptual populations, and means of dissemination. This scenario can contribute to the development of critical educators who base their professional practice on knowledge and evidence rather than solely on personal experience, thus promoting critical scientific education. Finally, we highlight how science didactics operates as a progressive research program, following the Lakatosian perspective.
