MALPICA MAURY, Olga Margarita e GONZALEZ LOMELI, Daniel. Social Representations of Coexistence in a High School in San José del Cabo, Mexico. Prax. Saber [online]. 2024, vol.15, n.41, e16584. Epub 19-Jan-2024. ISSN 2216-0159. https://doi.org/10.19053/22160159.v15.n41.2024.16584.
The challenges faced within educational institutions have a significant impact on individuals' daily experiences, as schools are integral components of societal structures. Living together in institutions is a continuous constructive process in which transactions, negotiations, solutions, etc., take place, creating common meanings that have been historically constructed. This research examined how individuals within a high school in San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico, perceive and represent the concept of "coexistence". Through a detailed analysis involving a focus group of 72 students, it was revealed that the core elements of coexistence include values such as respect, friendship, trust, unity, dialogue, companionship, and acceptance. All of these are positive elements. However, aspects related to an inclusive, democratic, and peaceful coexistence are not highlighted, which are precisely the types of relationships that school institutions are seeking to promote in accordance with the guidelines of national and international organizations.
