Abstract

Introduction: This article describes the sociodemographic characteristics, access to social securityand participation in health services, for families with school children between six and thirteen years of a school in Bucaramanga. Materials and Methods: Across-sectional, we worked in three phases with a sample of 400 families with school children between six and thirteen years since the dimensions and basic achievements of the strategie together in the programin your neighborhood, with the phase a B performed in the first half of 2009 with a sample of 30 families, phase B was carried out in the first half to 2010 with a sample of 67 families and phase C was performed in the B semester 2010 with a sample of 303 families, of which 217 agreed to informed consent. Survey was applied "characterization of the families." Results: Regarding the sociodemographic characteristics, the highest percentage of respondents is for the children belonging to the female gender, occupation studentsin a high percentage belonging to the subsidized system, 100% of the population has no movement, a percentage of the population has some kind of visual impairment. The predominant family type is the two-parent nuclear, with incomes between1 and2 minimum wages. In the promotion and prevention programs the population has access to most of them. Regarding the elderly, chronic diseases are hypertension and diabetes are and a large percentage of them belong to the program of cardiovascular risk. Discussion and Conclusions: Families with school children between six and thirteen are entirely social security, knowledge and access to health services. Regarding the sociodemographic characteristics and results are presented in statistical tables. Data are consistent with other similar studies in the area.
