Introduction: An investigation was conducted Intervention in 4 institutionalized elderly welfare centers Bucaramanga, whose objective was to measure the effect of 5 nursing care strategies in the elderly with impaired physical mobility and health-generating behaviors. Materials and Methods: We performed a study of intervention strategies for implementing five institutionalized elderly care in welfare centers in Bucaramanga period April to June 2010 strengthening: physical activity, self-care, use of safety devices, massage and self-esteem to help improving the quality of life of older adults. The instrument for the assessment of nursing strategies for the elderly consisting of 33 items divided into 5 sessions. For tabulation and analysis took into account quantitative variables and interval ratio which was calculated as measures of central tendency mean and median. Measures of dispersion such as standard deviation. Histogram plots were used, for nominal qualitative variables and for ordinal variables frequency tables and simple bar. The analysis was made from a database built in excel of Windows. Results: When comparing the valuation of physical mobility between first week and the seventh week shows the improvement in the performance of the movements with an increase of 59.7% from a 22.4% during the first week to 82.1% in the seventh week. Discussion and Conclusions: Find similarity with other studies claiming that exercise is effective in improving motor abilities in the population under study, we showed an increase in physical mobility in a 59.7% complete, confirming the benefits of physical activity. Based on Self-Care Theory Dorothea Orem and compared with the current study demonstrates wellness centers, educational support that is essential for older adults acquire a habit that contributes to improving their health through of self-care practices and proper use of assistive devices. Involving older models, teaching each self-care practices, physical activity, proper use assistive devices, and leadership training allows them to continue with the process of self and thus promotes the independence of the elderly, nurse and facilitator-client relationship.
