Abstract

Introduction: Adolescent mothers who are in unsuitable living conditions for its development present a greater risk of non-beneficial consequences for their quality of life. The objective of this research was to characterize the living conditions from the viewpoint of the social determinants of health in a group of adolescent mothers in Suba. Materials and Methods: A descriptive quantitative design and implementation of a survey of an intended sample of 92 participants. It was developed from January 2010 to June 2011. Data were analyzed in the statistical program SPSS version 15. Results: In the results, the research study determined the profile of the young mother from the Social Determinants of Health, young people are characterized as inhabitants of a territory defined by conditions of high vulnerability, with average schooling: high school with occupations such as student , housewives or unemployed- it means without any financial resources-, marital or cohabiting unmarried, nuclear family pattern, which leads to economic dependence, age of first sexual intercourse in middle adolescence (14 to 17 years), with little use of contraception. Fortunately, health disorders during pregnancy are minimal and young mothers care their health using health services, concluding that the conditions of life from the Social Determinants of Health, did not generate much impact on Health same results. Discussion and Conclusions: The role of the nurse should be centered in the different fields of practice: Community care and research, in order to contribute to improving the welfare of teenage mothers, these roles can be executed from the Social Determinants of Health in Middle which requires the intervention of the health field, both preventive and treatment and rehabilitation.
