Abstract

DELGADO MUNEVAR, WILLIAM GILBERTO. WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND ECONOMIC VALUE. Finanz. polit. econ. [online]. 2015, vol.7, n.2, pp.279-298. ISSN 2248-6046.  https://doi.org/10.14718/revfinanzpolitecon.2015.7.2.4.

The pressure exerted on water resources is a problem that, added to the growing levels of pollution, has led to overexploitation and an increased demand for water, and the consequences of this on its quality. The expansion of the water networks, the growth of urban and rural areas, increased farming, industrial expansion and low water costs are some of the factors that explain the deterioration of our water resources. The purpose of this paper is to provide a quick glimpse at the problems, the management and the economic value of the water resources. Globally, not many empirical studies on the subject have been undertaken. However, our country has a number of statistics that will be presented, in particular, the financial and economic costs of the water resources and inequalities driven by social, cultural and anthropological privileges.

Keywords : economics of natural resources; water; environmental assessment.
