HERNANDEZ RIVERA, Ariadna. Gender gap in trust of financial products and services from a behavioral perspective. Finanz. polit. econ. [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.1, pp.245-273. Epub 29-Jun-2023. ISSN 2248-6046. https://doi.org/10.14718/revfinanzpolitecon.v15.n1.2023.10.
This research aims to demonstrate that confidence in the use and access of financial tools in men and women determines the financial behavior of users in Mexico, marking different trends according to gender. A methodology with a quantitative, non-experimental, and correlational approach is applied, proposing an econometric model of binary choice for men and women. The 2021 National Survey of Financial Inclusion (NSFI; ENIF) is used, considering 12.406 observations corresponding to people in an age range of 18 to 70 years, to validate the hypothesis that trust modifies the behavior of men and women regarding the use and access of financial instruments. The results show that, at a higher level of distrust, the Mexican population presents a behavior that forces them to reduce the use of instruments offered by formal financial institutions. It is concluded that the confidence of consumers in these resources modifies the behavior of men and women for their use.
