The text presents the results of the research project Colombia as receiving country of labor migration flows: preparing for the present. It describes the family characteristics of foreignness residing in Medellín and the motivations for migration in the context of the individual and family life-project of the interviewees. We found an increasingly active presence of immigrant families in Medellín for job reasons and confirmed the importance of support networks in the process of adapting to the city of destination.
