Abstract

ORDUZ RAMOS, Paula Daniela. Of Virtuality, Emotions and Sex Work: An Approach to Webcam Modeling. Trab. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.23, n.1, pp.153-172.  Epub Oct 20, 2021. ISSN 2256-5493.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ts.v23n1.86705.

This article summarizes one of the main arguments of a study focused in adult webcam modeling, taking as a focal point of analysis the way interactions between sex workers and clients are shaped by and between the intersection of technology and society. My analysis focuses on the emotional labor performed by the camgirls, describing the skills and expertise needed to be successful on this job. I argue that the emotional ties established between the camgirl and her clients are central in a virtual setting where physical contact is deemed as essential, bringing a new perspective to the sex work debate.

Keywords : camming; emotional labor; sex work; sexuality; technology; webcam modeling.
