Abstract

BERMUDEZ ARBOLEDA, Patricia  and  TOLEDO LEYVA, Yoanna. Transnational Cuban Family: Networked Digital Images and Power Relations in the Public Space of NICTS. Trab. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.23, n.1, pp.175-196.  Epub Oct 28, 2021. ISSN 2256-5493.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ts.v23n1.86661.

This article approaches the socialization relationships of a transnational Cuban family in public virtual contexts as Facebook and Instagram, from the analysis of the digital images that they publish and exchange in their daily lives. In parallel, we explore the dynamics of surveillance, control, and resistance that emerge from this primary institution, in a context marked by the migratory phenomenon of multiple destinations and the use of New Information and Communication Technologies (NICTS). Context where the making and transfer of images goes beyond the traditional limits of the Analog Era.

Keywords : digital images; ICTs; network; power relations; public space; transnational family.
