Abstract

MUNOZ ZAPATA, Doris Elena  and  ARIZA SOSA, Gladys Rocío. Contemporary Motherhood and Virtual Social Networks: "I Was Not the Only One Going Through That". Trab. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.23, n.1, pp.225-248.  Epub Oct 28, 2021. ISSN 2256-5493.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ts.v23n1.86615.

This article presents the results of a research about the meanings and contributions attributed to virtual social networks on maternity and raising by Colombian women. We carried out a qualitative research where we analyzed 17 interviews, one (1) focus group, and publications made for nine (9) months in a Facebook group and two Whatsapp groups on maternity. We concluded that these virtual spaces provide the social support that women did not find in their face-to-face networks and can constitute counter-hegemonic scenarios about motherhood and child-raising.

Keywords : birth; Facebook; motherhood; upbringings; social support; virtual social networks.
