Introduction.
Artificial vibrations have favorable sensorimotor effects on physical rehabilitation.
Objective.
To measure the effect of ascending vibration through the osteoarticular system on support function over the upper extremity with early neurological damage.
Methods.
Rehabilitation of a four-year-old female patient suffering from obstetric brachial palsy was implemented using a device consisting of a pressure sensor, a vibrating motor, and a microprocessor. The intervention was carried out in four sessions, and in the second and third sessions, vibrations were applied during crawling. The mean and maximum pressures, the total activity duration and the time ratio with build-in feedback were measured.
Results.
The mean pressure (94T6 and 86’95N vs. 2T80 or 66’05N), the time ratio with feedback and the total duration increased with vibrations, while the maximum pressure tended to increase as the session series progressed.
Discussion.
Vibratory feedback has favored both the permanence in motor activity and the amount and magnitude of body supports performed on the stimulated extremity.
Conclusion.
Vibratory feedback appears to be a useful and appropriate tool in the rehabilitation of the upper extremity of children with obstetric brachial palsy.
