Abstract

RUIZ-CORDOBA, Jairo A.; LOPEZ-CANAS, Carlos A.; CARMONA-ARANGO, María E.  and  BOLIVAR-GOMEZ, William. Statistical modeling of cyanide leaching of a mineral from the municipality of Andes, Colombia, as an alternative to the amalgamation process. LogosCyT [online]. 2019, vol.11, n.2, pp.126-137.  Epub Dec 28, 2019. ISSN 2145-594X.  https://doi.org/10.22335/rlct.v11i2.826.

The results of a research into the cyanide leaching of a sulphurous gold ore with carbonaceous matter are shown. An experimental design of factorial analysis 2k of three variables with replicates in the center was applied, using the response surface method (MRS). Cyanidation tests in rotating bottles were conducted to study the effect of certain selected variables on Au recovery and to determine the optimal parameters to achieve maximum Au recovery in the process. The results obtained show that the mineral presents a high degree of cyanide leachability, obtaining an average Au recovery of 93.65%, with a sodium cyanide [NaCN] concentration of 2.5 g/L and a leaching time of 12 hours.

Keywords : Mineral characterization; cyanidation; experimental design; factorial design; response surface; gold ore.
