Uses and regulations regarding public space are currently in debate. This article seeks to identify the different approaches and positions from which this concept is currently understood. For this, a review of documents was carried out on the advances that account for the different approaches presented in Latin America to study, intervene and understand public space. As a result, it is highlighted that public space is analyzed from a mostly utilitarian position that ignores the subject and his/her behavior. In this sense, citizen culture appears as a category of analysis to solve this situation. With the above, some categories are proposed that will serve as a basis to analyze the studies and public policies of public space and citizen culture from the academy and from the State. Finally, a multidisciplinary study is proposed that will help allow the attainment of arguments from different perspectives for decision-making regarding this issue in Colombian.
