Abstract

CARRILLO RODRIGUEZ, Jesús  and  TOCA TORRES, Claudia Eugenia. Socioeconomic roots of crime in Mexico: an analysis 2015 using multiple regression. Rev. logos cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.2, pp.8-27.  Epub Aug 13, 2022. ISSN 2145-594X.  https://doi.org/10.22335/rlct.v14i2.1589.

Borrowing some ideas from stress theory, social change theory, and economic approach, the objective of this research proposes a comprehensive explanation of criminal trends. Based on a multiple lineal regression analysis, it presents evidence of both the socioeconomic and institutional determinants of crime in Mexico (2015). Three research hypotheses are proposed: the more poverty, the more crimes (rejected); the more unemployment, the more crimes (confirmed); and more security force less crimes (rejected). Findings indicate that total level of crime, recognizes three main predictors: poverty, unemployment, and institutional absence.

Keywords : Delinquency; poverty; violence; unemployment; Crime theory.
