Artificial intelligence (AI) integrates various algorithms to facilitate functions aimed at research and the development of innovative processes that streamline tasks across different fields of knowledge. AI supports human activity by reducing response times, improving decision-making, and enhancing public safety. This article explores the critical role of AI in modernizing and optimizing the activities and processes within police forces, enabling them to meet community needs and improve operational effectiveness. To achieve this, a bibliometric analysis of existing publications was conducted using specialized tools such as Bibliometric and VOSviewer. The analysis identified key trends in AI research and highlighted the main topics relevant to its application in police forces at national and international levels. The study underscores the operational applications of AI, particularly in improving service delivery, fulfilling institutional missions, and enhancing training processes. It also highlights the growing body of research on the use of AI in operational contexts, demonstrating its potential to significantly increase the effectiveness of police work. Furthermore, the article discusses critical issues, such as the ethical and legal implications of AI misuse and the risks to citizen well-being. These findings pave the way for a deeper exploration of the responsible and effective use of AI in policing.
