Abstract

SAENZ ACOSTA, Hernando; DEMORAES, Florent  and  ROZO ALVAREZ, Ángela Lucía. Living conditions and daily mobility of the tenant population in peripheral and pericentrals areas of Bogotá. Rev. Ciudades Estados Política [online]. 2021, vol.8, n.1, pp.101-125.  Epub Dec 16, 2021. ISSN 2462-9103.

The aim of this article is to present an analysis of the living conditions of households according to the dwelling occupancy status in peripheral and pericentral areas of Bogotá. More specifically, it seeks to verify the existence of differences between tenants and the owners. While we consider common criteria for describing the living conditions of households such as their socioeconomic level, the qualitative deficit of housing, promiscuity, the provision of public services, we also include less common indicators that refer to the daily mobility practices. The main sources of data used come from the 2017 Multipurpose Survey and the 2019 Survey of Urban Mobility. Among the main conclusions, it can be observed that the characteristics of housing and access to public services are very similar among tenants and owners, which implies quite similar living conditions between the two groups from this point of view, except for the promiscuity which is greater among the tenants. There is also evidence of a certain homogeneity between both groups with regard to their daily mobility, the differences being primarily associated with their location in the metropolitan area.

Keywords : living conditions; daily mobility; dwelling occupancy status; tenants; owners; periphery; Bogotá.
