Abstract

BOTERO MARTINEZ, José Leonar  and  ROJAS BETANCUR, Milton Andrés. Political Actors in Truth Commissions in Argentina, Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru, and Colombia. Novum Jus [online]. 2023, vol.17, n.2, pp.119-145.  Epub Nov 11, 2023. ISSN 1692-6013.  https://doi.org/10.14718/novumjus.2023.17.2.5.

This article aims to describe and analyze the actions of political actors in Truth Commissions in the cases of Argentina, Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru, and Colombia. In this sense, it seeks to strengthen further reflection on transitional justice and studies on peace, political transitions, and armed conflicts in Latin America. To achieve the above, a comparative study was carried out to put into perspective the type of political transitions developed in these countries, the debates, consensuses, and behaviors assumed by these actors, which were reflected in the support, opposition, and resistance of the different political sectors to the creation, implementation, and publication of the reports of the truth commissions, amid the transitional justice policies established in each country.

Keywords : Truth Commission; political actor; transitional justice.
